Refrigeration False Economy!
This story mainly applies to the bottle shop trade, especially the small independents.
Stop being cheap and don’t be fooled by your suppliers who offer you use of a glass display fridge free of charge.
I have seen multiple bottle shops with up to 15 separate single phase fridges, all stocked with separate product ranges. That’s 15 separate refrigeration compressors!
OK so it’s not costing you anything to maintain them but what about the electricity cost? This situation beggars belief but I see it every where.
Why not bite the bullet and install one large cool room with a refrigerated display at the front and save yourself a heap on energy cost. Then you have the additional advantage of not being dictated to by the supplier threatening to remove the fridge if you don’t merchandise enough of their product.
Once you have your own cool room YOU control the shelf space and you then have extra bargaining power in terms of price etc. Pretty simple business practice really but I see this scenario everywhere in the market place when there is an amateur operator in a bottle shop.
